Previous GeneCards Identifiers for TGIF2 Gene
The protein encoded by this gene is a DNA-binding homeobox protein and a transcriptional repressor, which appears to repress transcription by recruiting histone deacetylases to TGF beta-responsive genes. This gene is amplified and over-expressed in some ovarian cancers. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1. Read-through transcription also exists between this gene and the neighboring downstream C20orf24 (chromosome 20 open reading frame 24) gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2010]
GeneCards Summary for TGIF2 Gene
TGIF2 (TGFB Induced Factor Homeobox 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with TGIF2 include Holoprosencephaly and Holoprosencephaly 4. Among its related pathways are mir34a and TGIF2 in osteoclastogenesis and Gene Expression. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include DNA binding transcription factor activity. An important paralog of this gene is TGIF1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for TGIF2 Gene
Transcriptional repressor, which probably repress transcription by binding directly the 5-CTGTCAA-3 DNA sequence or by interacting with TGF-beta activated SMAD proteins. Probably represses transcription via the recruitment of histone deacetylase proteins.
