This gene encodes a member of the TET family of RNA-binding proteins. The encoded protein plays a role in RNA polymerase II gene transcription as a component of a distinct subset of multi-subunit transcription initiation factor TFIID complexes. Translocations involving this gene play a role in acute leukemia and extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma, and mutations in this gene may play a role in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, May 2012]
GeneCards Summary for TAF15 Gene
TAF15 (TATA-Box Binding Protein Associated Factor 15) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with TAF15 include Chondrosarcoma, Extraskeletal Myxoid and Epithelial-Myoepithelial Carcinoma. Among its related pathways are RNA Polymerase II Transcription Initiation And Promoter Clearance and Transcriptional misregulation in cancer. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include nucleic acid binding and nucleotide binding. An important paralog of this gene is FUS.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Summary for TAF15 Gene
RNA and ssDNA-binding protein that may play specific roles during transcription initiation at distinct promoters. Can enter the preinitiation complex together with the RNA polymerase II (Pol II).
