This gene encodes a nuclear protein that interacts with hepatitis B virus X protein (HBX) and facilitates transcription of hepatitis B virus genes by the HBX transcription activator, suggesting a role for this interaction in the virus life cycle. This protein also interacts with SNF2H protein to form the RSF chromatin-remodeling complex, where the SNF2H subunit functions as the nucleosome-dependent ATPase, and this protein as the histone chaperone. GeneCards Summary for RSF1 Gene
RSF1 (Remodeling And Spacing Factor 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with RSF1 include Hepatitis B and Hepatitis. Among its related pathways are Chromosome Maintenance and Cell Cycle, Mitotic. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include ATPase activity and histone binding. An important paralog of this gene is KAT6B.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Summary for RSF1 Gene
Required for assembly of regular nucleosome arrays by the RSF chromatin-remodeling complex (PubMed:12972596). Facilitates transcription of hepatitis B virus (HBV) genes by the pX transcription activator. In case of infection by HBV, together with pX, it represses TNF-alpha induced NF-kappa-B transcription activation. Represses transcription when artificially recruited to chromatin by fusion to a heterogeneous DNA binding domain (PubMed:11944984, PubMed:11788598).
