The protein encoded by this gene is a homeobox-containing transcription factor of the POU domain family. The encoded protein binds the octamer sequence 5'-ATTTGCAT-3', a common transcription factor binding site in immunoglobulin gene promoters. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
GeneCards Summary for POU2F2 Gene
POU2F2 (POU Class 2 Homeobox 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with POU2F2 include Herpes Simplex and T-Cell/Histiocyte Rich Large B Cell Lymphoma. Among its related pathways are B cell receptor signaling pathway (KEGG) and B Cell Receptor Signaling Pathway (sino). Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include DNA-binding transcription factor activity and protein domain specific binding. An important paralog of this gene is POU2F1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Summary for POU2F2 Gene
Transcription factor that specifically binds to the octamer motif (5'-ATTTGCAT-3'). Regulates transcription in a number of tissues in addition to activating immunoglobulin gene expression. Modulates transcription transactivation by NR3C1, AR and PGR. Isoform 5 activates the U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) promoter.
