GeneCards Summary for PHB2 Gene
PHB2 (Prohibitin 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with PHB2 include Breast Medullary Carcinoma and 3-Methylglutaconic Aciduria, Type V. Among its related pathways are GPCR Pathway and MAPK Signaling: Mitogen Stimulation Pathway. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include estrogen receptor binding. An important paralog of this gene is PHB.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Summary for PHB2 Gene
Acts as a mediator of transcriptional repression by nuclear hormone receptors via recruitment of histone deacetylases (By similarity). Functions as an estrogen receptor (ER)-selective coregulator that potentiates the inhibitory activities of antiestrogens and represses the activity of estrogens. Competes with NCOA1 for modulation of ER transcriptional activity. In mitochondria, regulates cytochrome-c oxidase assembly (COX) and mitochondrial respiration. Binding to sphingoid 1-phosphate (SPP) modulates its regulator activity (PubMed:20959514).
