This gene encodes a cytoplasmic enzyme that phosphorylates diacylglycerol to produce phosphatidic acid. Diacylglycerol and phosphatidic acid are two lipids that act as second messengers in signaling cascades. Their cellular concentrations are regulated by the encoded protein, and so it is thought to play an important role in cellular signal transduction. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
GeneCards Summary for DGKD Gene
DGKD (Diacylglycerol Kinase Delta) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are superpathway of inositol phosphate compounds and Response to elevated platelet cytosolic Ca2+. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include protein homodimerization activity and NAD+ kinase activity. An important paralog of this gene is DGKH.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for DGKD Gene
Diacylglycerol kinases (DGKs) are a group of ten enzymes that metabolize 1,2,diacylglycerol (DAG) to produce phosphatidic acid (PA). They all contain a conserved C'-terminal catalytic domain and two cysteine-rich Zn2+-finger motifs with varied regulatory domains.
