Previous GeneCards Identifiers for ARR3 Gene
The protein encoded by this gene is a non-visual arrestin which binds to agonist-activated, phosphorylated G protein-coupled receptors. This binding uncouples the receptor from the heterotrimeric G protein, resulting in termination of the G protein-coupled receptor signaling. The encoded protein also is a part of the centrosome, interacting with gamma-tubulin to help regulate proper centrosome function. [provided by RefSeq, May 2016]
GeneCards Summary for ARR3 Gene
ARR3 (Arrestin 3) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with ARR3 include Myopia 26, X-Linked, Female-Limited and Retinal Vasculitis. Among its related pathways are Thromboxane A2 receptor signaling and Visual Cycle in Retinal Rods. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include phosphoprotein binding and opsin binding. An important paralog of this gene is ARRB1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot Summary for ARR3 Gene
May play a role in an as yet undefined retina-specific signal transduction. Could bind to photoactivated-phosphorylated red/green opsins.
