How to search GeneCards:

Keywords may be a human or mouse gene, protein, disease, cell type, tissue, chromosome or a related word.

Search Examples:

p53 p53, P53 exact word match is used when nothing else is specified (case doesn't matter)

develop* development, developing, developed every word starting like this
*synap* synapse, presynaptic, postsynaptic, synaptophysin anywhere (independent of word boundaries)
synaptic vesicle synaptic vesicle the second word follows the first word, separated by a space and nothing else (compare the AND search below!)
cancer* OR tumor* OR neoplas* cancerogenic, tumor, neoplastic any of the strings separated by"OR" must occur (= Boolean "OR")
synap* AND exocyto* exocytosis in synapses, synaptic ... excocytotic both strings must occur somewhere in the GeneCard (= Boolean "AND")
NOTE: only one "&" or "AND" per search!
cancer OR tumor AND breast breast cancer, tumors of the breast the search option characters may be combined [corresponds to Boolean "(cancer or tumor*) and breast"]
chromosome: 22 CHROMOSOME: 22 all the GeneCards genes that have been mapped to chromosome 22 (see also the chromosome-specific listings of "disease genes")
locus: 7p* locus: 7p13, LOCUS: 7p2.1 all the GeneCards genes that have been mapped to the short arm of chromosome 7
