Phosducin-like protein is a putative modulator of heterotrimeric G proteins. The protein shares extensive amino acid sequence homology with phosducin, a phosphoprotein expressed in retina and pineal gland. Both phosducin-like protein and phosphoducin have been shown to regulate G-protein signaling by binding to the beta-gamma subunits of G proteins. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
GeneCards Summary for PDCL Gene
PDCL (Phosducin Like) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with PDCL include allergic hypersensitivity disease and nasal cavity disease. Among its related pathways are Transport to the Golgi and subsequent modification and Chaperonin-mediated protein folding. GO annotations related to this gene include protein complex binding and receptor signaling protein activity. An important paralog of this gene is PDCL2.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for PDCL Gene
Isoform 1: Functions as a co-chaperone for CCT in the assembly of heterotrimeric G protein complexes, facilitates the assembly of both Gbeta-Ggamma and RGS-Gbeta5 heterodimers.
Isoform 2: Acts as a negative regulator of heterotrimeric G proteins assembly by trapping the preloaded G beta subunits inside the CCT chaperonin.
