Phosducin-like protein is a putative modulator of heterotrimeric G proteins. The protein shares extensive amino acid sequence homology with phosducin, a phosphoprotein expressed in retina and pineal gland. Both phosducin-like protein and phosphoducin have been shown to regulate G-protein signaling by binding to the beta-gamma subunits of G proteins. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
GeneCards Summary for PDCL Gene
PDCL (Phosducin Like) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with PDCL include Tomato Allergy and Timothy Grass Allergy. Among its related pathways are Chaperonin-mediated protein folding and Metabolism of proteins. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include protein complex binding and signal transducer activity, downstream of receptor. An important paralog of this gene is PDC.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for PDCL Gene
Isoform 1: Functions as a co-chaperone for CCT in the assembly of heterotrimeric G protein complexes, facilitates the assembly of both Gbeta-Ggamma and RGS-Gbeta5 heterodimers.
Isoform 2: Acts as a negative regulator of heterotrimeric G proteins assembly by trapping the preloaded G beta subunits inside the CCT chaperonin.
