This gene encodes a zinc finger protein containing five C2H2-type zinc finger domains, one or two Kruppel-associated box A (KRAB A) domains, and a leucine-rich domain. The encoded protein has been suggested to be a transcriptional repressor. It localizes predominantly to the nucleolus. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist. These variants utilize alternative polyadenylation signals. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

ZNF274 (Zinc Finger Protein 274) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with ZNF274 include Frasier Syndrome. Among its related pathways are Development HGF signaling pathway and Gene Expression. GO annotations related to this gene include nucleic acid binding and sequence-specific DNA binding. An important paralog of this gene is ZNF215.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for ZNF274 Gene
Probable transcription repressor. Specifically binds to the 3-end of zinc-finger coding genes and recruiting chromatin-modifying proteins such as SETDB1 and TRIM28/KAP1, leading to transcription repression. The SETDB1-TRIM28-ZNF274 complex may play a role in recruiting ATRX to the 3-exons of zinc-finger coding genes with atypical chromatin signatures to establish or maintain/protect H3K9me3 at these transcriptionally active regions (PubMed:27029610).
