About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for WDR36: This gene encodes a member of the WD repeat protein family. WD repeats are minimally conserved regions of approximately40 amino acids typically bracketed by gly-his and trp-asp (GH-WD), which may facilitate formation of heterotrimeric ormultiprotein complexes. Members of this family are involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycleprogression, signal transduction, apoptosis, and gene regulation. Mutations in this gene have been associated withadult-onset primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). Defects in WDR36 are the cause of primary open angle glaucoma type 1G (GLC1G) [MIM:609887]. Primary open angleglaucoma (POAG) is characterized by a specific pattern of optic nerve and visual field defects. The angle of theanterior chamber of the eye is open, and usually the intraocular pressure is increased. The disease is asymptomaticuntil the late stages, by which time significant and irreversible optic nerve damage has already taken place 13 diseases for WDR36: About MalaCardsopen-angle glaucoma glaucoma 1, open angle, g primary open angle glaucoma glaucoma primary open anle glaucoma primary congenital glaucoma myocardial infarction polyposis blindness asthma obesity esophagitis malaria 2 diseases from the University of Copenhagen DISEASES database for WDR36:Glaucoma Blindness 2 Novoseek disease relationships for WDR36 gene About this table
