Protein kinase CK2 is a ubiquitous and pleiotropic Ser/Thr protein kinase involved in cell growth and transformation. This gene encodes a protein similar to the E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme UBC3/CDC34. Studies suggest that CK2-dependent phosphorylation of this ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme functions by regulating beta-TrCP substrate recognition and induces its interaction with beta-TrCP, enhancing beta-catenin degradation. GeneCards Summary for UBE2R2 Gene
UBE2R2 (Ubiquitin Conjugating Enzyme E2 R2) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Ubiquitin-Proteasome Dependent Proteolysis and Remodeling of Adherens Junctions. GO annotations related to this gene include ligase activity and ubiquitin protein ligase binding. An important paralog of this gene is CDC34.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for UBE2R2 Gene
Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins. In vitro catalyzes monoubiquitination and Lys-48-linked polyubiquitination. May be involved in degradation of katenin.
