The protein encoded by this gene localizes to focal adhesions, regions of the plasma membrane where the cell attaches to the extracellular matrix. This protein crosslinks actin filaments and contains a Src homology 2 (SH2) domain, which is often found in molecules involved in signal transduction. This protein is a substrate of calpain II. A second transcript from this gene has been described, but its full length nature has not been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
GeneCards Summary for TNS1 Gene
TNS1 (Tensin 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with TNS1 include bannayan-riley-ruvalcaba syndrome and ruvalcaba syndrome. Among its related pathways are Integrin Pathway and Focal adhesion. GO annotations related to this gene include actin binding. An important paralog of this gene is TNS4.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for TNS1 Gene
Involved in fibrillar adhesion formation. May be involved in cell migration, cartilage development and in linking signal transduction pathways to the cytoskeleton.
