Entrez Gene summary for TGIF2 Gene:
The protein encoded by this gene is a DNA-binding homeobox protein and a transcriptional repressor, which appears
to repress transcription by recruiting histone deacetylases to TGF beta-responsive genes. This gene is amplified
and over-expressed in some ovarian cancers. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. A
related pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1. Read-through transcription also exists between this gene
and the neighboring downstream C20orf24 (chromosome 20 open reading frame 24) gene. (provided by RefSeq, Dec
2010)

GeneCards Summary for TGIF2 Gene:
TGIF2 (TGFB-induced factor homeobox 2) is a protein-coding gene. GO annotations related to this gene include sequence-specific DNA binding and sequence-specific DNA binding transcription factor activity. An important paralog of this gene is MEIS2.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: TGIF2_HUMAN, Q9GZN2
Function: Transcriptional repressor, which probably repress transcription by binding directly the 5'-CTGTCAA-3'
DNA sequence or by interacting with TGF-beta activated SMAD proteins. Probably represses transcription via the
recruitment of histone deacetylase proteins
