External Ids for TFPI2 Gene
This gene encodes a member of the Kunitz-type serine proteinase inhibitor family. The protein can inhibit a variety of serine proteases including factor VIIa/tissue factor, factor Xa, plasmin, trypsin, chymotryspin and plasma kallikrein. This gene has been identified as a tumor suppressor gene in several types of cancer. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2012]
GeneCards Summary for TFPI2 Gene
TFPI2 (Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with TFPI2 include fibrosarcoma and amelanotic melanoma. Among its related pathways are Formation of Fibrin Clot (Clotting Cascade) and Cell adhesion_Plasmin signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity and extracellular matrix structural constituent. An important paralog of this gene is TFPI.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for TFPI2 Gene
May play a role in the regulation of plasmin-mediated matrix remodeling. Inhibits trypsin, plasmin, factor VIIa/tissue factor and weakly factor Xa. Has no effect on thrombin.
