About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for TAS2R14: This gene product belongs to the family of candidate taste receptors that are members of the G-protein-coupled receptorsuperfamily. These proteins are specifically expressed in the taste receptor cells of the tongue and palate epithelia. They are organized in the genome in clusters and are genetically linked to loci that influence bitter perception inmice and humans. In functional expression studies, they respond to bitter tastants. This gene maps to the tastereceptor gene cluster on chromosome 12p13. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: T2R14_HUMAN, Q9NYV8Function: Receptor that may play a role in the perception of bitterness and is gustducin-linked. May play a role insensing the chemical composition of the gastrointestinal content. The activity of this receptor may stimulate alphagustducin, mediate PLC-beta-2 activation and lead to the gating of TRPM5 (By similarity) Gene Wiki entry for TAS2R14
