Aliases for SULF2 Gene
External Ids for SULF2 Gene
Heparan sulfate proteoglycans (HSPGs) act as coreceptors for numerous heparin-binding growth factors and cytokines and are involved in cell signaling. Heparan sulfate 6-O-endosulfatases, such as SULF2, selectively remove 6-O-sulfate groups from heparan sulfate. This activity modulates the effects of heparan sulfate by altering binding sites for signaling molecules (Dai et al., 2005 [PubMed 16192265]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008]
GeneCards Summary for SULF2 Gene
SULF2 (Sulfatase 2) is a Protein Coding gene. GO annotations related to this gene include calcium ion binding and N-acetylglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity. An important paralog of this gene is SULF1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for SULF2 Gene
Exhibits arylsulfatase activity and highly specific endoglucosamine-6-sulfatase activity. It can remove sulfate from the C-6 position of glucosamine within specific subregions of intact heparin
