This gene encodes a member of the S100 protein family which contains an EF-hand motif and binds calcium. The gene is located in a cluster of S100 genes on chromosome 1. Levels of the encoded protein have been found to be lower in cancerous tissue and associated with metastasis suggesting a tumor suppressor function (PMID: 19956863, 19351828). GeneCards Summary for S100A14 Gene
S100A14 (S100 Calcium Binding Protein A14) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with S100A14 include small intestine adenocarcinoma and breast cancer. GO annotations related to this gene include calcium ion binding and chemokine receptor binding. An important paralog of this gene is S100A13.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for S100A14 Gene
Modulates P53/TP53 protein levels, and thereby plays a role in the regulation of cell survival and apoptosis. Depending on the context, it can promote cell proliferation or apoptosis. Plays a role in the regulation of cell migration by modulating the levels of MMP2, a matrix protease that is under transcriptional control of P53/TP53. Does not bind calcium.
