About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for PTPRJ: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP) family. PTPs are known to besignaling molecules that regulate a variety of cellular processes, including cell growth, differentiation, mitoticcycle, and oncogenic transformation. This PTP possesses an extracellular region containing five fibronectin type IIIrepeats, a single transmembrane region, and a single intracytoplasmic catalytic domain, and thus represents areceptor-type PTP. This protein is present in all hematopoietic lineages, and was shown to negatively regulate T cellreceptor signaling possibly through interfering with the phosphorylation of Phospholipase C Gamma 1 and Linker forActivation of T Cells. This protein can also dephosphorylate the PDGF beta receptor, and may be involved in UV-inducedsignal transduction. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. (providedby RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: PTPRJ_HUMAN, Q12913Function: Tyrosine phosphatase which dephosphorylates or contributes to the dephosphorylation of CTNND1, FLT3, PDGFRB,MET, RET (variant MEN2A), KDR, LYN, SRC, MAPK1, MAPK3, EGFR, TJP1, OCLN, PIK3R1 and PIK3R2. Plays a role in celladhesion, migration, proliferation and differentiation. Involved in vascular development. Regulator of macrophageadhesion and spreading. Positively affects cell-matrix adhesion. Positive regulator of platelet activation andthrombosis. Negative regulator of cell proliferation. Negative regulator of PDGF-stimulated cell migration; throughdephosphorylation of PDGFR. Positive regulator of endothelial cell survival, as well as of VEGF-induced SRC and AKTactivation; through KDR dephosphorylation. Negative regulator of EGFR signaling pathway; through EGFRdephosphorylation. Enhances the barrier function of epithelial junctions during reassembly. Negatively regulatesT-cell receptor (TCR) signaling. Upon T-cell TCR activation, it is up-regulated and excluded from the immunologicalsynapses, while upon T-cell-antigen presenting cells (APC) disengagement, it is no longer excluded and candephosphorylate PLCG1 and LAT to down-regulate prolongation of signaling Gene Wiki entry for PTPRJ
