About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for PPIE: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) family. PPIasescatalyze the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidic peptide bonds in oligopeptides and accelerate the folding ofproteins. This protein contains a highly conserved cyclophilin (CYP) domain as well as an RNA-binding domain. It wasshown to possess PPIase and protein folding activities, and it also exhibits RNA-binding activity. Alternativesplicing results in multiple transcript variants. A related pseudogene, which is also located on chromosome 1, hasbeen identified. (provided by RefSeq, Aug 2010) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: PPIE_HUMAN, Q9UNP9Function: PPIases accelerate the folding of proteins. It catalyzes the cis-trans isomerization of proline imidicpeptide bonds in oligopeptides. Combines RNA-binding and PPIase activities. May be involved in muscle- andbrain-specific processes. May be involved in pre-mRNA splicing Gene Wiki entry for PPIE
