The protein encoded by this gene is a homeobox-containing transcription factor of the POU domain family. The encoded protein binds the octamer sequence 5'-ATTTGCAT-3', a common transcription factor binding site in immunoglobulin gene promoters. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2011]
GeneCards Summary for POU2F2 Gene
POU2F2 (POU Class 2 Homeobox 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with POU2F2 include T-Cell/Histiocyte Rich Large B Cell Lymphoma and Papilloma. Among its related pathways are Ectoderm Differentiation and Gene Expression. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include DNA binding transcription factor activity and protein domain specific binding. An important paralog of this gene is POU2F1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for POU2F2 Gene
Transcription factor that specifically binds to the octamer motif (5-ATTTGCAT-3). Regulates transcription in a number of tissues in addition to activating immunoglobulin gene expression. Modulates transcription transactivation by NR3C1, AR and PGR. Isoform 5 activates the U2 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) promoter.
