Summaries for PDE3A Gene

Entrez Gene Summary for PDE3A Gene

  • This gene encodes a member of the cGMP-inhibited cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (cGI-PDE) family. cGI-PDE enzymes hydrolyze both cAMP and cGMP, and play critical roles in many cellular processes by regulating the amplitude and duration of intracellular cyclic nucleotide signals. The encoded protein mediates platelet aggregation and also plays important roles in cardiovascular function by regulating vascular smooth muscle contraction and relaxation. Inhibitors of the encoded protein may be effective in treating congestive heart failure. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2011]

GeneCards Summary for PDE3A Gene

PDE3A (Phosphodiesterase 3A) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with PDE3A include Hypertension And Brachydactyly Syndrome and Brachydactyly-Arterial Hypertension Syndrome. Among its related pathways are cAMP signaling pathway and Activation of cAMP-Dependent PKA. GO annotations related to this gene include 3,5-cyclic-nucleotide phosphodiesterase activity and 3,5-cyclic-AMP phosphodiesterase activity. An important paralog of this gene is PDE7A.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for PDE3A Gene

  • Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase with a dual-specificity for the second messengers cAMP and cGMP, which are key regulators of many important physiological processes.

Tocris Summary for PDE3A Gene

  • Phosphodiesterases (PDEs) are a family of phosphohydrolyases that catalyze the hydrolysis of 3' cyclic phosphate bonds in adenosine and/or guanine 3',5' cyclic monophosphate (cAMP and/or cGMP). PDEs regulate the second messengers by controlling their degradation.

  • Hypertension and brachydactyly syndrome (HTNB) [MIM:112410]: A syndrome characterized by brachydactyly type E, severe salt-independent but age-dependent hypertension, an increased fibroblast growth rate, neurovascular contact at the rostral-ventrolateral medulla, and altered baroreflex blood pressure regulation. It results in death from stroke before age 50 years when untreated. Brachydactyly type E is characterized by shortening of the fingers mainly in the metacarpals and metatarsals. {ECO:0000269 PubMed:25961942}. Note=The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.
