This gene encodes a member of the pappalysin family of metzincin metalloproteinases. The encoded protein cleaves insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 5 and is thought to be a local regulator of insulin-like growth factor (IGF) bioavailability. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2010]
GeneCards Summary for PAPPA2 Gene
PAPPA2 (Pappalysin 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Biosynthesis of the N-glycan precursor (dolichol lipid-linked oligosaccharide, LLO) and transfer to a nascent protein and Regulation of Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF) Transport and Uptake by Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Proteins (IGFBPs). GO annotations related to this gene include metallopeptidase activity. An important paralog of this gene is PAPPA.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for PAPPA2 Gene
