External Ids for NDST3 Gene
This gene encodes a member of the heparan sulfate/heparin GlcNAc N-deacetylase/ N-sulfotransferase family. The encoded enzyme is a type II transmembrane protein that resides in the Golgi apparatus. This monomeric bifunctional enzyme catalyzes the N-deacetylation and N-sulfation of N-acetylglucosamine residues in heparan sulfate and heparin, which are the initial chemical modifications required for the biosynthesis of the functional oligosaccharide sequences that define the specific ligand binding activities of heparan sulfate and heparin. GeneCards Summary for NDST3 Gene
NDST3 (N-Deacetylase/N-Sulfotransferase (Heparan Glucosaminyl) 3) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with NDST3 include mast cell neoplasm. Among its related pathways are Disease and Metabolism. GO annotations related to this gene include deacetylase activity and [heparan sulfate]-glucosamine N-sulfotransferase activity. An important paralog of this gene is NDST4.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for NDST3 Gene
Essential bifunctional enzyme that catalyzes both the N-deacetylation and the N-sulfation of glucosamine (GlcNAc) of the glycosaminoglycan in heparan sulfate. Modifies the GlcNAc-GlcA disaccharide repeating sugar backbone to make N-sulfated heparosan, a prerequisite substrate for later modifications in heparin biosynthesis. Has high deacetylase activity but low sulfotransferase activity.
