About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for NCOA4: This gene encodes an androgen receptor coactivator. The encoded protein interacts with the androgen receptor in aligand-dependent manner to enhance its transcriptional activity. Chromosomal translocations between this gene and theret tyrosine kinase gene, also located on chromosome 10, have been associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma.Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. Pseudogenes are present on chromosomes 4, 5, 10, and14. (provided by RefSeq, Feb 2009) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: NCOA4_HUMAN, Q13772Function: Enhances the androgen receptor transcriptional activity in prostate cancer cells. Defects in NCOA4 are a cause of thyroid papillary carcinoma (TPC) [MIM:188550]. TPC is a common tumor of thethyroid that typically arises as an irregular, solid or cystic mass from otherwise normal thyroid tissue. Papillarycarcinomas are malignant neoplasm characterized by the formation of numerous, irregular, finger-like projections offibrous stroma that is covered with a surface layer of neoplastic epithelial cells. Note=A chromosomal aberrationinvolving NCOA4 is found in thyroid papillary carcinomas. Inversion inv(10)(q11.2;q11.2) generates the RET/NCOA4(PTC3) oncogene that has been found in sporadic and radiation-associated post-Chernobyl thyroid papillary carcinomas 15 diseases for NCOA4: About MalaCardspapillary thyroid carcinoma thyroid carcinoma thyroiditis carcinoma papillary carcinoma thyroid cancer ovarian cancer azoospermia prostate cancer breast cancer alzheimer's disease prostatitis prostate carcinoma ataxia cholesterol
