Previous GeneCards Identifiers for MTF1 Gene
This gene encodes a transcription factor that induces expression of metallothioneins and other genes involved in metal homeostasis in response to heavy metals such as cadmium, zinc, copper, and silver. The protein is a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein that accumulates in the nucleus upon heavy metal exposure and binds to promoters containing a metal-responsive element (MRE). GeneCards Summary for MTF1 Gene
MTF1 (Metal Regulatory Transcription Factor 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MTF1 include Enamel Erosion and Tooth Erosion. Among its related pathways are Regulation of lipid metabolism by Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) and Regulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by SREBP (SREBF). GO annotations related to this gene include transcription factor activity, sequence-specific DNA binding and RNA polymerase II core promoter proximal region sequence-specific DNA binding. An important paralog of this gene is GLI2.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for MTF1 Gene
