Previous GeneCards Identifiers for MTF1 Gene
This gene encodes a transcription factor that induces expression of metallothioneins and other genes involved in metal homeostasis in response to heavy metals such as cadmium, zinc, copper, and silver. The protein is a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein that accumulates in the nucleus upon heavy metal exposure and binds to promoters containing a metal-responsive element (MRE). GeneCards Summary for MTF1 Gene
MTF1 (Metal-Regulatory Transcription Factor 1) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MTF1 include enamel erosion and dentine erosion. Among its related pathways are Regulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by SREBP (SREBF) and Regulation of lipid metabolism by Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha). GO annotations related to this gene include transcription factor activity, sequence-specific DNA binding and RNA polymerase II core promoter proximal region sequence-specific DNA binding. An important paralog of this gene is ZIC3.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for MTF1 Gene
