Summaries for MMP10 Gene

Entrez Gene Summary for MMP10 Gene

  • Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene degrades proteoglycans and fibronectin. The gene is part of a cluster of MMP genes which localize to chromosome 11q22.3. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

GeneCards Summary for MMP10 Gene

MMP10 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 10) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MMP10 include middle cerebral artery infarction and epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica. Among its related pathways are GPCR Pathway and Integrin Pathway. GO annotations related to this gene include calcium ion binding and metallopeptidase activity. An important paralog of this gene is MMP13.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for MMP10 Gene

  • Can degrade fibronectin, gelatins of type I, III, IV, and V; weakly collagens III, IV, and V. Activates procollagenase

Tocris Summary for MMP10 Gene

  • Matrix metalloproteases (matrix metalloproteinase, MMPs), also called matrixins, are zinc-dependent endopeptidases and the major proteases in ECM degradation. MMPs are capable of degrading several extracellular molecules and a number of bioactive molecules.
