This gene encodes a member of the geminin family of proteins. The encoded nuclear protein is required for the generation of multiciliated cells in respiratory epithelium. Mutations in this gene cause a rare mucociliary clearance disorder associated with recurring respiratory infections in human patients, known as reduced generation of multiple motile cilia (RGMC). GeneCards Summary for MCIDAS Gene
MCIDAS (Multiciliate Differentiation And DNA Synthesis Associated Cell Cycle Protein) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MCIDAS include Ciliary Dyskinesia, Primary, 1 and Kartagener Syndrome. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations related to this gene include identical protein binding and transcription coactivator activity. An important paralog of this gene is GMNN.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for MCIDAS Gene
Transcription regulator specifically required for multiciliate cell differentiation. Acts in a multiprotein complex containing E2F4 and E2F5 that binds and activates genes required for centriole biogenesis. Required for the deuterosome-mediated acentriolar pathway (PubMed:25048963). Plays a role in mitotic cell cycle progression by promoting cell cycle exit. Modulates GMNN activity by reducing its affinity for CDT1 (PubMed:21543332, PubMed:24064211).
