Summaries for KAT2B Gene

Entrez Gene Summary for KAT2B Gene

  • CBP and p300 are large nuclear proteins that bind to many sequence-specific factors involved in cell growth and/or differentiation, including c-jun and the adenoviral oncoprotein E1A. The protein encoded by this gene associates with p300/CBP. It has in vitro and in vivo binding activity with CBP and p300, and competes with E1A for binding sites in p300/CBP. It has histone acetyl transferase activity with core histones and nucleosome core particles, indicating that this protein plays a direct role in transcriptional regulation. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

GeneCards Summary for KAT2B Gene

KAT2B (K(Lysine) Acetyltransferase 2B) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with KAT2B include holt-oram syndrome and hiv-1. Among its related pathways are Signaling by GPCR and Downstream signaling events of B Cell Receptor (BCR). GO annotations related to this gene include protein kinase binding and transcription coactivator activity. An important paralog of this gene is KAT2A.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for KAT2B Gene

  • Functions as a histone acetyltransferase (HAT) to promote transcriptional activation. Has significant histone acetyltransferase activity with core histones (H3 and H4), and also with nucleosome core particles. Also acetylates non-histone proteins, such as ACLY. Inhibits cell-cycle progression and counteracts the mitogenic activity of the adenoviral oncoprotein E1A. In case of HIV-1 infection, it is recruited by the viral protein Tat. Regulates Tats transactivating activity and may help inducing chromatin remodeling of proviral genes. Acts as a circadian transcriptional coactivator which enhances the activity of the circadian transcriptional activators: NPAS2-ARNTL/BMAL1 and CLOCK-ARNTL/BMAL1 heterodimers.
