About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for IL23R: The protein encoded by this gene is a subunit of the receptor for IL23A/IL23. This protein pairs with the receptormolecule IL12RB1/IL12Rbeta1, and both are required for IL23A signaling. This protein associates constitutively withJanus kinase 2 (JAK2), and also binds to transcription activator STAT3 in a ligand-dependent manner. (provided byRefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: IL23R_HUMAN, Q5VWK5Function: Associates with IL12RB1 to form the interleukin-23 receptor. Binds IL23 and mediates T-cells, NK cells andpossibly certain macrophage/myeloid cells stimulation probably through activation of the Jak-Stat signaling cascade.IL23 functions in innate and adaptive immunity and may participate in acute response to infection in peripheraltissues. IL23 may be responsible for autoimmune inflammatory diseases and be important for tumorigenesis Gene Wiki entry for IL23R (Interleukin-23 receptor)

Genetic variations in IL23R are associated with inflammatory bowel disease type 17 (IBD17) [MIM:612261]. IBD17is a chronic, relapsing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract with a complex etiology. It is subdivided intoCrohn disease and ulcerative colitis phenotypes. Crohn disease may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract fromthe mouth to the anus, but most frequently it involves the terminal ileum and colon. Bowel inflammation is transmuraland discontinuous; it may contain granulomas or be associated with intestinal or perianal fistulas. In contrast, inulcerative colitis, the inflammation is continuous and limited to rectal and colonic mucosal layers; fistulas andgranulomas are not observed. Both diseases include extraintestinal inflammation of the skin, eyes, or joints Genetic variations in IL23R are a cause of susceptibility to psoriasis type 7 (PSORS7) [MIM:605606]. Psoriasisis a common, chronic inflammatory disease of the skin with multifactorial etiology. It is characterized by red, scalyplaques usually found on the scalp, elbows and knees. These lesions are caused by abnormal keratinocyte proliferationand infiltration of inflammatory cells into the dermis and epidermis 20/45 diseases for IL23R (see all 45): About MalaCardsinflammatory bowel disease 17, protection against psoriasis, protection against relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis inflammatory bowel disease graft versus host disease sclerosing cholangitis primary sclerosing cholangitis primary biliary cirrhosis pediatric crohns disease barrett's esophagus ankylosing spondylitis cholangitis rheumatoid arthritis systemic lupus erythematosus aplastic anemia lupus erythematosus psoriatic arthritis dilated cardiomyopathy multiple sclerosis achalasia
