About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for IFT122: This gene encodes a member of the WD repeat protein family. WD repeats are minimally conserved regions of approximately40 amino acids typically bracketed by gly-his and trp-asp (GH-WD), which may facilitate formation of heterotrimeric ormultiprotein complexes. Members of this family are involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell cycleprogression, signal transduction, apoptosis, and gene regulation. This cytoplasmic protein contains seven WD repeatsand an AF-2 domain which function by recruiting coregulatory molecules and in transcriptional activation. Alternatetranscriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: IF122_HUMAN, Q9HBG6Function: Required for cilia formation during neuronal patterning. Acts as a negative regulator of Shh signaling.Required to recruit TULP3 to primary cilia (By similarity)

Defects in IFT122 are a cause of cranioectodermal dysplasia type 1 (CED1) [MIM:218330]. CED1 is a disordercharacterized by craniofacial, skeletal and ectodermal abnormalities. Clinical features include dolichocephaly (withor without sagittal suture synostosis), scaphocephaly, short stature, limb shortening, short ribs, narrow chest, brachydactyly, renal failure and hepatic fibrosis, small and abnormally shaped teeth, sparse hair, skin laxity andabnormal nails 15 diseases for IFT122: About MalaCardspelizaeus-merzbacher disease japanese spotted fever endemic typhus trigeminal neuralgia vasomotor rhinitis spotted fever short stature sensenbrenner syndrome vestibular neuronitis synostosis brachydactyly paraplegia rhinitis neuronitis hepatitis 4 diseases from the University of Copenhagen DISEASES database for IFT122:Paraplegia Afferent loop syndrome Sensenbrenner syndrome Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease Export disorders for IFT122 gene to outside databases
