This gene encodes the beta subunit of the soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), which catalyzes the conversion of GTP (guanosine triphosphate) to cGMP (cyclic guanosine monophosphate). The encoded protein contains an HNOX domain, which serves as a receptor for ligands such as nitric oxide, oxygen and nitrovasodilator drugs. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, May 2014]
GeneCards Summary for GUCY1B3 Gene
GUCY1B3 (Guanylate Cyclase 1 Soluble Subunit Beta) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Development Angiotensin activation of ERK and G-Beta Gamma Signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include protein heterodimerization activity and GTP binding. An important paralog of this gene is GUCY1A2.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for GUCY1B3 Gene
Mediates responses to nitric oxide (NO) by catalyzing the biosynthesis of the signaling molecule cGMP.
Guanylyl Cyclases (GC) are a group of enzymes that, in the presence of a metal ion co-factor such as Mg2+ or Mn2+, convert guanosine-5'-triphosphate (GTP) into 3',5'-guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) and pyrophosphate. There are two main groups of guanylyl cyclase.
