About This Section

Entrez Gene summary for GOT2 Gene:
Glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme which exists in cytoplasmic and
inner-membrane mitochondrial forms, GOT1 and GOT2, respectively. GOT plays a role in amino acid metabolism and
the urea and tricarboxylic acid cycles. The two enzymes are homodimeric and show close homology. (provided by
RefSeq, Jul 2008)

GeneCards Summary for GOT2 Gene:
GOT2 (glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase 2, mitochondrial) is a protein-coding gene. Diseases associated with GOT2 include gallbladder disease, and intestinal disease, and among its related super-pathways are glutamate degradation II and Metabolic pathways. GO annotations related to this gene include L-phenylalanine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase activity and pyridoxal phosphate binding. An important paralog of this gene is GOT1.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: AATM_HUMAN, P00505
Function: Catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic
acid (KA). Plays a key role in amino acid metabolism. Important for metabolite exchange between mitochondria and
cytosol. Facilitates cellular uptake of long-chain free fatty acids
