Previous GeneCards Identifiers for FSHB Gene
The pituitary glycoprotein hormone family includes follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, chorionic gonadotropin, and thyroid-stimulating hormone. All of these glycoproteins consist of an identical alpha subunit and a hormone-specific beta subunit. This gene encodes the beta subunit of follicle-stimulating hormone. In conjunction with luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone induces egg and sperm production. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein. GeneCards Summary for FSHB Gene
FSHB (Follicle Stimulating Hormone Beta Subunit) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with FSHB include hypogonadotropic hypogonadism 24 without anosmia and infertility. Among its related pathways are Signaling by GPCR and Transport to the Golgi and subsequent modification. GO annotations related to this gene include hormone activity and follicle-stimulating hormone activity. An important paralog of this gene is TSHB.
