About This Section
User Feedback | Entrez Gene summary for CYP4F2: This gene encodes a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. The cytochrome P450 proteins aremonooxygenases which catalyze many reactions involved in drug metabolism and synthesis of cholesterol, steroids andother lipids. This protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum. The enzyme starts the process of inactivating anddegrading leukotriene B4, a potent mediator of inflammation. This gene is part of a cluster of cytochrome P450 geneson chromosome 19. Another member of this family, CYP4F11, is approximately 16 kb away. (provided by RefSeq) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CP4F2_HUMAN, P78329Function: Cytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved inan NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, includingsteroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics Gene Wiki entry for CYP4F2 |
