This antimicrobial gene is part of a chemokine superfamily that encodes secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of the N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine, a member of the CXC subfamily, is expressed at sites of inflammation and may suppress hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
GeneCards Summary for CXCL2 Gene
CXCL2 (C-X-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 2) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CXCL2 include Acanthamoeba Keratitis and Pneumonia. Among its related pathways are Peptide ligand-binding receptors and Chemokine Superfamily Pathway: Human/Mouse Ligand-Receptor Interactions. GO annotations related to this gene include chemokine activity and CXCR chemokine receptor binding. An important paralog of this gene is CXCL1.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for CXCL2 Gene
Produced by activated monocytes and neutrophils and expressed at sites of inflammation. Hematoregulatory chemokine, which, in vitro, suppresses hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation. GRO-beta(5-73) shows a highly enhanced hematopoietic activity.
