About This Section

Entrez Gene summary for CPAMD8 Gene:
CPAMD8 belongs to the complement component-3 (C3; MIM 120700)/alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M; MIM 103950) family of
proteins, which are involved in innate immunity and damage control. Complement components recognize and eliminate
pathogens by direct binding or by mediating opsonization/phagocytosis and intracellular killing, and A2M is a
broad-spectrum protease inhibitor (Li et al., 2004 (PubMed 15177561)).(supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008)

GeneCards Summary for CPAMD8 Gene:
CPAMD8 (C3 and PZP-like, alpha-2-macroglobulin domain containing 8) is a protein-coding gene. Diseases associated with CPAMD8 include crohn's disease, and neuronitis. GO annotations related to this gene include serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. An important paralog of this gene is A2M.

summary for CPAMD8 Gene:
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) receptors are a group of Gs-protein-coupled receptors that are currently
divided into two subtypes; VPAC1 and VPAC2. They are widely distributed throughout the central nervous
system and are also found in peripheral organs including the liver, lung, intestine, skeletal muscle, heart
and kidney. VPAC1 and VPAC2 have diverse biological actions including promotion of neuronal survival,
regulation of glycogen metabolism, stimulation of prolactin release from the pituitary and catecholamine
release from the adrenal medulla, and inhibition of IL-2-mediated T-cell proliferation. The human genes
encoding VPAC1 and VPAC2 receptor have been located on chromosomes 3p22 and 7q36.3 respectively.
