About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for CDS2: Breakdown products of phosphoinositides are ubiquitous second messengers that function downstream of many Gprotein-coupled receptors and tyrosine kinases regulating cell growth, calcium metabolism, and protein kinase Cactivity. This gene encodes an enzyme which regulates the amount of phosphatidylinositol available for signaling bycatalyzing the conversion of phosphatidic acid to CDP-diacylglycerol. This enzyme is an integral membrane proteinlocalized to two subcellular domains, the matrix side of the inner mitochondrial membrane where it is thought to beinvolved in the synthesis of phosphatidylglycerol and cardiolipin and the cytoplasmic side of the endoplasmicreticulum where it functions in phosphatidylinositol biosynthesis. Two genes encoding this enzyme have been identifiedin humans, one mapping to human chromosome 4q21 and a second to 20p13. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CDS2_HUMAN, O95674Function: Provides CDP-diacylglycerol an important precursor for the synthesis of phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylglycerol, and cardiolipin Gene Wiki entry for CDS2

| UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CDS2_HUMAN, O95674 (See
protein sequence)Recommended Name: Phosphatidate cytidylyltransferase 2 Size: 445 amino acids; 51418 Da
Subcellular location: Mitochondrion inner membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein; Matrix side (Potential)
Developmental stage: No expression detected at E10.5 in the developing brain. At E12.5 expression is detected in thedeveloping sentral nervous system and peripheral nervous system. At E17.5 high levels of expression are detected in anumber of sites, including the dorsal root ganglia of the peripheral nervous system and the ganglion cell layer of theneural retina in the developing eye. At this stage expression in the brain is restricted to the ventricular zone ofthe telencephalon, in particular in the basal ganglia and the cerebral cortex
