Summaries for CDK11B Gene

Entrez Gene Summary for CDK11B Gene

  • This gene encodes a member of the serine/threonine protein kinase family. Members of this kinase family are known to be essential for eukaryotic cell cycle control. Due to a segmental duplication, this gene shares very high sequence identity with a neighboring gene. These two genes are frequently deleted or altered in neuroblastoma. The protein kinase encoded by this gene can be cleaved by caspases and may play a role in cell apoptosis. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2014]

GeneCards Summary for CDK11B Gene

CDK11B (Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 11B) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CDK11B include childhood endodermal sinus tumor and endodermal sinus tumor. Among its related pathways are Cell Cycle, Mitotic and Cell Cycle, Mitotic. GO annotations related to this gene include protein serine/threonine kinase activity and cyclin-dependent protein serine/threonine kinase activity. An important paralog of this gene is CDK12.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for CDK11B Gene

  • Appears to play multiple roles in cell cycle progression, cytokinesis and apoptosis. The p110 isoforms have been suggested to be involved in pre-mRNA splicing, potentially by phosphorylating the splicing protein SFRS7. The p58 isoform may act as a negative regulator of normal cell cycle progression.

  • During apoptosis, induced by Fas or tumor necrosis factor, specific CKD11 p110 isoforms are cleaved by caspases to produce a protein (p110C) that contains the C-terminal kinase domain of the CDK11 proteins
