About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for CDK11A: This gene encodes a member of the p34Cdc2 protein kinase family. p34Cdc2 kinase family members are known to beessential for eukaryotic cell cycle control. This gene is in close proximity to CDC2L1, a nearly identical gene in thesame chromosomal region. The gene loci including this gene, CDC2L1, as well as metalloprotease MMP21/22, consist oftwo identical, tandemly linked genomic regions, which are thought to be a part of the larger region that has beenduplicated. This gene and CDC2L1 were shown to be deleted or altered frequently in neuroblastoma with amplified MYCNgenes. The protein kinase encoded by this gene could be cleaved by caspases and was demonstrated to play roles in cellapoptosis. Many transcript variants encoding several different isoforms have been found for this gene, but thefull-length nature of only two have been determined so far. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CD11A_HUMAN, Q9UQ88Function: Appears to play multiple roles in cell cycle progression, cytokinesis and apoptosis. The p110 isoforms havebeen suggested to be involved in pre-mRNA splicing, potentially by phosphorylating the splicing protein SFRS7. The p58isoform may act as a negative regulator of normal cell cycle progression Gene Wiki entry for CDK11A (CDC2L2)

About This Section
| UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CD11A_HUMAN, Q9UQ88 (See
protein sequence)Recommended Name: Cyclin-dependent kinase 11A Size: 783 amino acids; 91362 Da
Cofactor: Magnesium
Subunit: The cleaved p110 isoform, p110C, binds to the serine/threonine kinase PAK1. The p58 isoform but not the p110isoform or p110C interacts with CCND3. The p110 isoforms are found in large molecular weight complexes containingCCNL1 and SFRS7
Subcellular location: Cytoplasm. Nucleus
Miscellaneous: Duplicated gene. CDK11A and CDK11B encode almost identical protein kinases of 110 kDa that contain attheir C-termini the open reading frame of a smaller 58 kDa isoform which is expressed following IRES-mediatedalternative initiation of translation
Caution: Many references talk about 'p110 isoforms' but it is not yet known if this refers to CDK11A and/or CDK11B orone/some of the isoforms of each
