External Ids for CDH11 Gene
This gene encodes a type II classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily, integral membrane proteins that mediate calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion. Mature cadherin proteins are composed of a large N-terminal extracellular domain, a single membrane-spanning domain, and a small, highly conserved C-terminal cytoplasmic domain. Type II (atypical) cadherins are defined based on their lack of a HAV cell adhesion recognition sequence specific to type I cadherins. Expression of this particular cadherin in osteoblastic cell lines, and its upregulation during differentiation, suggests a specific function in bone development and maintenance. GeneCards Summary for CDH11 Gene
CDH11 (Cadherin 11, Type 2, OB-Cadherin (Osteoblast)) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with CDH11 include aneurysmal bone cysts and malignant peritoneal mesothelioma. Among its related pathways are ERK Signaling and ERK Signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include calcium ion binding. An important paralog of this gene is CDH19.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for CDH11 Gene
Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types
