About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for CDC42BPA: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Serine/Threonine protein kinase family. This kinase containsmultiple functional domains. Its kinase domain is highly similar to that of the myotonic dystrophy protein kinase(DMPK). This kinase also contains a Rac interactive binding (CRIB) domain, and has been shown to bind CDC42. It mayfunction as a CDC42 downstream effector mediating CDC42 induced peripheral actin formation, and promoting cytoskeletalreorganization. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, and the full-length nature oftwo of them has been reported. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: MRCKA_HUMAN, Q5VT25Function: Serine/threonine-protein kinase which is an important downstream effector of CDC42 and plays a role in theregulation of cytoskeleton reorganization and cell migration. Regulates actin cytoskeletal reorganization viaphosphorylation of PPP1R12C and MYL9/MLC2. In concert with MYO18A and LURAP1, is involved in modulating lamellaractomyosin retrograde flow that is crucial to cell protrusion and migration. Phosphorylates: PPP1R12A, LIMK1 andLIMK2. May play a role in TFRC-mediated iron uptake Gene Wiki entry for CDC42BPA

| UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: MRCKA_HUMAN, Q5VT25 (See
protein sequence)Recommended Name: Serine/threonine-protein kinase MRCK alpha Size: 1732 amino acids; 197307 Da
Cofactor: Magnesium
Subunit: Homodimer and homotetramer via the coiled coil regions. Interacts tightly with GTP-bound but not GDP-boundCDC42. Forms a tripartite complex with MYO18A and LURAP1 with the latter acting as an adapter connecting CDC42BPA andMYO18A. LURAP1 binding results in activation of CDC42BPA by abolition of its negative autoregulation
Subcellular location: Cytoplasm (By similarity). Note=Displays a dispersed punctate distribution and concentrates alongthe cell periphery, especially at the leading edge and cell-cell junction. This concentration is PH-domain dependent(By similarity)
