EntrezGene summary for SEPT7 : This gene encodes a protein that is highly similar to the CDC10 protein of Saccharomycescerevisiae. The protein also shares similarity with Diff 6 of Drosophila and with H5 of mouse. Each of these similar proteins, including the yeast CDC10, contains a GTP-binding motif. The yeastCDC10 protein is a structural component of the 10 nm filament which lies inside the cytoplasmicmembrane and is essential for cytokinesis. Although the exact function of this gene has not yetbeen determined, its high similarity to yeast CDC10 and the high conservative nature of eukaryoticcell cycle machinery suggest a similar role to that of its yeast counterpart. Alternative splicingresults in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq] UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: SEPT7_HUMAN, Q16181 Function : Required for normal progress through mitosis. Involved in cytokinesis. Required fornormal association of CENPE with the kinetochore

protein sequence )Recommended Name: Septin-7 Size : 437 amino acids; 50680 Da
Subunit : Heterohexamer composed of two heterotrimers containing one copy each of SEPT2, SEPT6 andSEPT7. The asymmetrical heterotrimers associate head-to-head to form a hexameric unit thatassembles into filaments. Interacts directly with CENPE and links CENPE to septin filamentscomposed of SEPT2, SEPT6 and SEPT7
Subcellular location : Cytoplasm. Kinetochore. Spindle. Note=Distributed throughout the cytoplasm inprometaphase cells. Associated with the spindle during metaphase. Associated with the centralspindle and at the cleavage furrow in anaphase cells. Detected at the midbody in telophase
