About This Section

Entrez Gene summary for CDA Gene:
This gene encodes an enzyme involved in pyrimidine salvaging. The encoded protein forms a homotetramer that
catalyzes the irreversible hydrolytic deamination of cytidine and deoxycytidine to uridine and deoxyuridine,
respectively. It is one of several deaminases responsible for maintaining the cellular pyrimidine pool. Mutations
in this gene are associated with decreased sensitivity to the cytosine nucleoside analogue cytosine arabinoside
used in the treatment of certain childhood leukemias. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008)

GeneCards Summary for CDA Gene:
CDA (cytidine deaminase) is a protein-coding gene. Diseases associated with CDA include childhood leukemia, and acute leukemia, and among its related super-pathways are Pyrimidine metabolism and Fluoropyrimidine Pathway, Pharmacokinetics. GO annotations related to this gene include protein homodimerization activity and nucleoside binding.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CDD_HUMAN, P32320
Function: This enzyme scavenge exogenous and endogenous cytidine and 2'-deoxycytidine for UMP synthesis
