About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for CCRN4L: The protein encoded by this gene is highly similar to Nocturnin, a gene identified as a circadian clock regulated genein Xenopus laevis. This protein and Nocturnin protein share similarity with the C-terminal domain of a yeasttranscription factor, carbon catabolite repression 4 (CCR4). The mRNA abundance of a similar gene in mouse has beenshown to exhibit circadian rhythmicity, which suggests a role for this protein in clock function or as a circadianclock effector. (provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: NOCT_HUMAN, Q9UK39Function: Component of the circadian clock or downstream effector of clock function. Exhibits a high amplitudecircadian rhythm with maximal levels in early evening. In constant darkness or constant light, the amplitude of therhythm decreases (By similarity)
summary
for CCRN4L: Chemokines (chemotactic cytokines) belong to a family of chemoattractant molecules involved in the directed migration of immune cells. Over fifty human chemokines have been identified that can be categorised into four groups; CC, CXC, CX3C and C (XCL1 and XCL2); depending on the spacing of their first two cysteine residues. Chemokines exert their effects by binding to G-protein-coupled chemokine receptors on the surface of cells, predominantly leukocytes. Eighteen human chemokine receptors have been identified that are classified according to the class of chemokines that they bind. The major function of chemokines is to regulate leukocyte trafficking in hematopoiesis and in innate and adaptive immunity. Other functions include angiogenic activity, apoptosis, T-cell differentiation and phagocyte activation. Inadvertent activation of chemokine receptors leads to autoimmunity by inappropriately targeting self antigens for destruction by cytotoxic T-cells and macrophages.
