Entrez Gene summary for CCL18:
This gene is one of several Cys-Cys (CC) cytokine genes clustered on the q arm of chromosome 17. Cytokines are a familyof secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The CC cytokines are proteinscharacterized by two adjacent cysteines. The cytokine encoded by this gene displays chemotactic activity for naive Tcells, CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and nonactivated lymphocytes, but not for monocytes or granulocytes. This chemokineattracts naive T lymphocytes toward dendritic cells and activated macrophages in lymph nodes. It may play a role inboth humoral and cell-mediated immunity responses. Attracts naive T-lymphocytes toward dendritic cells and activatedmacrophages in lymph nodes, has chemotactic activity for naive T-cells, CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells and thus may play a rolein both humoral and cell-mediated immunity responsesInduction: Specifically induced in macrophages by IL4/interleukin-4, IL13/interleukin-13, and IL10/interleukin-10.Expression is inhibited by IFNG/IFN-gamma while glucocorticoids exert a slightly positive synergistic effect incombination with IL4/interleukin-4. Strongly induced in several human cell lines, including monocytic U-937 cells, byphorbol myristate acetate (PMA).
