About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for CARD14: This gene encodes a caspase recruitment domain-containing protein that is a member of the membrane-associated guanylatekinase (MAGUK) family of proteins. Members of this protein family are scaffold proteins that are involved in a diversearray of cellular processes including cellular adhesion, signal transduction and cell polarity control. This proteinhas been shown to specifically interact with BCL10, a protein known to function as a positive regulator of cellapoptosis and NF-kappaB activation. Alternate splicing results in multiple transcript variants. (provided by RefSeq,Apr 2012) UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot: CAR14_HUMAN, Q9BXL6Function: Activates NF-kappa-B via BCL10 and IKK. Stimulates the phosphorylation of BCL10 Gene Wiki entry for CARD14

Defects in CARD14 are the cause of susceptibility to psoriasis type 2 (PSORS2) [MIM:602723]. A common, chronicinflammatory disease of the skin with multifactorial etiology. It is characterized by red, scaly plaques usually foundon the scalp, elbows and knees. These lesions are caused by abnormal keratinocyte proliferation and infiltration ofinflammatory cells into the dermis and epidermis Defects in CARD14 are the cause of pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) [MIM:173200]. A rare, papulosquamous skindisease characterized by the appearance of keratotic follicular papules, well-demarcated salmon-colored erythematousplaques covered with fine powdery scales interspersed with distinct islands of uninvolved skin, and palmoplantarkeratoderma. Most cases are sporadic. The rare familial cases show autosomal dominant inheritance with incompletepenetrance and variable expression. Familial PRP usually presents at birth or appears during the first years of lifeand runs a chronic course. It is characterized by prominent follicular hyperkeratosis, diffuse palmoplantarkeratoderma, and erythema 5 diseases for CARD14: About MalaCardspityriasis rubra pilaris moyamoya disease hepatitis b hepatitis psoriasis Human Genome Epidemiology (HuGE) Navigator: CARD14 (4 documents) Export disorders for CARD14 gene to outside databases
