This gene encodes a member of the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) family of proteins. The encoded preproprotein is proteolytically processed to generate each subunit of the mature homodimer, which plays a role in bone, kidney and brown adipose tissue development. This protein induces ectopic bone formation and may promote fracture healing in human patients. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2015]
GeneCards Summary for BMP7 Gene
BMP7 (Bone Morphogenetic Protein 7) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with BMP7 include spondylolisthesis and renal fibrosis. Among its related pathways are Degradation of the extracellular matrix and Apoptotic Pathways in Synovial Fibroblasts. GO annotations related to this gene include cytokine activity and heparin binding. An important paralog of this gene is BMP2.
UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for BMP7 Gene
