Summaries for ADCY7 Gene

Entrez Gene Summary for ADCY7 Gene

  • This gene encodes a membrane-bound adenylate cyclase that catalyses the formation of cyclic AMP from ATP and is inhibitable by calcium. The product of this gene is a member of the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase enzyme family that is characterized by the presence of twelve membrane-spanning domains in its sequences. Several transcript variants have been observed for this gene, but the full-length natures of only two have been determined so far. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2013]

GeneCards Summary for ADCY7 Gene

ADCY7 (Adenylate Cyclase 7) is a Protein Coding gene. Among its related pathways are Signaling in Gap Junctions and Development Endothelin-1/EDNRA signaling. GO annotations related to this gene include phosphorus-oxygen lyase activity and adenylate cyclase activity. An important paralog of this gene is ADCY2.

UniProtKB/Swiss-Prot for ADCY7 Gene

  • This is a membrane-bound, calcium-inhibitable adenylyl cyclase.

Tocris Summary for ADCY7 Gene

  • Adenylyl Cyclases (AC) are a group of enzymes that convert adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) into 3',5'-adenosine monophosphate (cyclic AMP/cAMP) and pyrophosphate. There are ten different mammalian isoforms of adenylyl cylase; nine of which are membrane-bound.

  • The protein contains two modules with six transmembrane helices each; both are required for catalytic activity. Isolated N-terminal or C-terminal guanylate cyclase domains have no catalytic activity, but when they are brought together, enzyme activity is restored. The active site is at the interface of the two domains. Both contribute substrate-binding residues, but the catalytic metal ions are bound exclusively via the N-terminal guanylate cyclase domain.
  • Belongs to the adenylyl cyclase class-4/guanylyl cyclase family.
