About This Section
| Entrez Gene summary for ADAM33: This gene encodes a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family. Members of this family aremembrane-anchored proteins structurally related to snake venom disintegrins, and have been implicated in a variety ofbiological processes involving cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, including fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. This protein is a type I transmembrane protein implicated in asthma and bronchialhyperresponsiveness. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.(provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008) Gene Wiki entry for ADAM33

Genetic variations in ADAM33 are associated with susceptibility to asthma (ASTHMA) [MIM:600807]. The mostcommon chronic disease affecting children and young adults. It is a complex genetic disorder with a heterogeneousphenotype, largely attributed to the interactions among many genes and between these genes and the environment. It ischaracterized by recurrent attacks of paroxysmal dyspnea, with weezing due to spasmodic contraction of the bronchi 20/28 diseases for ADAM33 (see all 28): About MalaCardsasthma chronic obstructive pulmonary disease allergic rhinitis bronchial asthma atopic dermatitis acute lymphoblastic leukemia macular degeneration pulmonary disease lymphoblastic leukemia allergic asthma rhinitis bronchiolitis dermatitis atopy hepatitis b rabies copd polyposis gastric cancer psoriasis
